Roundham Mews, Paignton
Roundham Mews is a new residential development in Paignton, comprising six contemporary townhouses and four coach houses.
Occupying an impressive cliff-top position overlooking Goodrington Beach, the high-end collection of ten homes replaces a single dwelling that previously occupied the site.
The contemporary homes have been designed around open-plan living and high energy-efficiency standards. Inspired by the distinctive rows of beach huts along Goodrington Beach, the architectural design responds thoughtfully to its coastal setting and creates a strong sense of place.
One of the defining features of Roundham Mews is its elevated position above the beach, with exceptional views stretching across the bay.
For the structural design, the steeply sloping site presented particular considerations when developing an appropriate foundation solution for the new homes.
RYALL Structural Engineers was appointed to provide structural design input for the building foundations and distinctive timber roof trusses, working alongside South Devon Homes and Novotimber on these elements of the development.
The project demonstrates how specialist structural design services can form an important part of a wider development team, providing targeted engineering expertise where it is needed.
Roundham Mews has been designed by Lebrasse Architecture & Planning, commissioned by MDP Developments South West Ltd and constructed by Harmony Homes.
The development is due for completion in late 2026, with the new homes currently available to reserve through local estate agents Marchand Petit.
