RYALL Structural Engineers is providing structural engineering expertise for a new gym and wellness centre in Maidstone. The project will see the extension and conversion of the former James Villa House on the 20/20 Business Park at Allington. Once complete, the centre will include gym facilities, group-class studios, spa and pool areas, a café, and welcoming lounges.

Trusted Engineering for Reputable Construction Partners

We’re pleased to be working with Kent Structures on this new facility for their client Natural Fit. Director Lee Ryall was lead engineer on their centres in Tunbridge Wells and Hove. Both involved challenging conversions of historic buildings: a listed bank and a former church. This will be the third addition to their gym and wellness portfolio in the South of England.

Engineering Challenges and Practical Solutions

Historic building projects often require careful planning and creative structural solutions. At Hove, a two-storey steel frame was installed within a former church, using spider cranes to work in confined spaces.

At Tunbridge Wells, modern fitness requirements were balanced with the preservation of a listed building. These experiences highlight our ability to deliver practical engineering for complex sports and leisure projects. This latest project will be equally rewarding as it involves a complete overhaul of a contemporary but somewhat outdated building.

Structural Engineering for Fitness and Leisure Facilities

Our experience in the fitness and leisure sector extends beyond gyms and wellness centres. We have engineered school sports halls, swimming pools, and indoor and outdoor courts for local clubs.

Structural design in this sector often demands wide spans for large open areas, column-free layouts, and systems that safely support high dynamic loads. Sustainability is also a key focus, with low-carbon materials and efficient structural solutions forming part of our approach.
